About AA Flags

AA Flags is a thriving Flag manufacturer based in the North East of England; the company was conceived from an idea when Mandy Scott the owner was made redundant at the age of twenty four.
This allowed Mandy to begin the manufacture of National and Corporate Flags, banners and bunting from the cellar of her home. Some thirteen years later AA Flags now occupy a large industrial unit employing some twenty five local full time staff in Consett, County Durham. Over the years Consett has seen the demise of the steel industry and the North East as a whole has experienced a significant downturn in the textile market which can cause problems when wishing to recruit the skilled machinists required to manufacture such an intricate and quality product as a hand made flag. To produce high quality traditional flags Mandy has managed to encourage skilled machinists back to their trade whilst improving upon the traditional methods required.
The North East was built on small close knit communities and as a community friendly company, AA Flags tries wherever possible in some small way to carry on that ethos and spirit, we sponsor a local football team and we distribute scrap fabrics to local schools and colleges for use in art projects. We also encourage and sponsor art competitions which utilize waste fabrics; Mandy regularly takes on pupils wishing to gain "Work Experience" as part of their studies. Mandy has built a solid company upon a simple ethic. We offer excellent products with a fast turnaround backed by an after sales service which is second to none. We never compete on price offering excellent value and quality for the product provided, we understand our market and our customers, in short we understand our customers their requirements and deliver when we say we will, which is why customers return again and again.
The Future...Our vision for the future of AA Flags? Well we think we are nearly there, we are now the largest manufacturer of traditionally sewn flags in the UK and hope in ten years time to be the largest in Europe. While our competitors have invested in digital technology to produce printed flags, we have remained consistent in the manufacture of traditionally crafted hand sewn versions of which we are very proud, so if you need a flag give us a call you won't be disappointed. |

Mandy began trading from her home as a sole trader in September 1992, with no practical experience of running a business Mandy sought advice from the local Development Agency and manged to obtain a little funding to help her in her endeavors from the Enterprise Allowance Scheme.
AA Flags has won many awards since its creation in 1992, most recently achieving finalist status from a country wide search celebrating "The Sunday Express Women Mean Business Awards" and as one of Derwentside Districts "Celebrating Success" award winners for 2003-2004.
